Isaiah 62:5b says, “As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you.
Life is demanding. Voices call for our attention constantly, especially with young children. Recently watching a video of myself as a young mom, hearing again all the kids calling for my attention brought me back to being overwhelmed. How in the world did I ever keep up with our busy family? It made me tired just watching it. Whom do you answer? How can you give them the attention they desire? It is a huge challenge to navigate.
We did our best to divide our attention during those busy times. We also sought opportunities to engage with each child one-to-one so that our kids would know how much we love them. These moments of sharing time together were opportunities to catch a glimpse into a child’s heart. We savored date nights with our kids going out for ice cream or time spent working at a project together as opportunities to glimpse a child’s heart. It is a precious gift that says, “You matter to me!” “I value time with spent with you!”
It reminds me of how our heavenly Father desires to listen to the concerns of our hearts and longs to draw us into fellowship with him. He waits patiently for us to come to him; he is not impatient or distracted. He will listen to every word we have to say. He passionately desires for us to come and engage in our relationship together.
Just as we delight in time spent enjoying our children, so God rejoices in time spent with us. Zephaniah 3:17 says, “He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
It makes me smile to think of God being so happy to hang out with me that he can’t help but burst into song.
But that is our God; he is just that crazy about us!
Lord, thank you for your amazing love for us. Help us to delight in you and seek out opportunities to get to know each other better. Help us to make time for you amid the busyness of our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
