After a long day of biking, our bodies need a break. When we push our muscles all the time, we burn out. Even while biking we need to pause and coast to catch our breath. Our weary muscles reach a point that they are not going any further. Without rest we become too exhausted to complete the challenges in front of us. We enjoy our rides so much more when taking breaks to nap in the shade or relax with a milkshake. Those times of refreshment are important parts of our day. We may not look very productive lying in the shade, but those times are critical to our success. We need to take time replenish ourselves so we have the strength to finish strong.
Matthew 11:28 Jesus says “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” What an awesome thing that Jesus is willing to carry our burdens and allow us to rest. That is impressive rider support services! Jesus knows that it is part of our design that we need rest to be able to function. Burn out happens when we are so driven to be productive that we neglect that important rest.
We need rest from our labors to energize our bodies for the challenges that we will face. As our bodies need physical rest we also need the spiritual rest the Jesus offers. What a blessing that Jesus offers to carry our emotional load and give us rest. We need to take advantage of the rest Jesus offers and hand over our burdens. Resting in God’s presence allows us to be restored and refreshed.
